Sprint and Midget Classic- ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD- From Joe Conroy of Conroy Pneu Controls- Bobby East of Brownsburg IN, Won the Sprint portion of the PRI Mopar Classic at Orlando Speed World on Friday night. Bobby drove his Dad's house car to a dominate WIN. In the pits was His Dad Bob, and His Mom Janice. (Another Family Team.) 4th was Aaron Pierce with his Dad, Sam in the pits supporting his Son. Remember this name. Jacob Wilson. I can't remember such talent in a 17 year old. With Jack French as a tutor, in a Car borrowed from the Guiducci /Walker Stable, and sponsored by Fatheadz.com, the story begins. Coming out of Go- Carts, with multiple Championships, Jacob sat in his first Sprint Car at the Florida 400. Jacob qualified 3rd, and held his ground until the 1st pit stop. He went down a lap, changing a tire. Mark, his Dad told him he was a lap down, and had to pick up the pace. The charge was on. He un-lapped himself, by passing Dave Steele, yes, passing Dave Steele. You won't see that happen very often. Jacob led till a slower car bobbled of a turn, and Jacob went high to avoid him, and touched the wall, bending the front axle, and rear panhard bar. He still hustled it to a 3rd place finish. The team went to the PRI race at Orlando, where he qualified 7th and finished 7th. on a nite where passing was next to impossible. Who was there to support him? His dad Mark, his mother Dianne, and his 15 yr. old brother Clint, who has been his Mechanic from the beginning, and well matured for his age. I had the pleasure of spending a week with them at Jack Nowling's Shop, on the their way to Bradenton. It was a real pleasure to meet them. I'm sure you will see a lot of Jacob Wilson in the future. Jacob's LIVE INTERVIEW WITH REAL RACIN' USA (click here) it takes a while to download Desoto Speedway- Florida 400 - Jacob qualified 7th and led the race after 300 laps complete but brushed the backstretch wall and ruined his chances to win, he was still fast enough to bring it home 3rd in his very first sprint car race! Anderson Speedway USAC Midgets- 10th annual Stock Car Festival Champion!- Jacob Wilson of Crawfordsville, Ind. won Sunday afternoon's very competitive 30-lap USAC Kenyon Midget feature at Anderson Speedway. Kyle Hamilton of Danville, Ind. emerged as the 2007 series champion after finishing fourth in Sunday's race. Wilson utilized the "high line" to pass Ryan Miller on lap 19 and led the final 12 laps in his Kartshirts.com/Gould Body & Paint Yamaha. Banjo Big Car 100 Friday, Sept. 14th at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont, In. - The team struggled early in practice to get the car running right but with the help of veteran mechanic Jack French, Carl Young and John Pettitjean the WBR #07 was back to full song in time for qualifying. the only trouble was the car was now faster and very loose, so the top 5 spot we had hoped for was 14th. Jacob shrugged it off and said "We have 100 laps, the car is good, I think I can drive it into the top 5." Drive it he did! Jake was steadily picking off cars working his way to the front patiently and found himself racing Bryan Clauson at the half way point of the race for 6th position. Bryan raced Jake and Clint back at the Indianapolis Speedrome in the midgets a few years ago, but has moved on now driving NASCAR for Chip Gannassi Target Racing. Jake and Bryan raced hard, side by side, for nearly 20 laps before touching tires coming out of turn 2 and cutting down the right rear tire on the #07. Wilson did a wonderful job of saving it going into turn 3 not knowing the tire was down and nearly hit the wall- stirring up a dust cloud and bringing out the caution. Jake radioed in simultaneously he had a flat right rear, so Clinton and the team readied for a pit stop. The team changed the tire and beat the pace car but the race rules dictate that changing a right rear tire during the race automatically scores you one lap down. Jake was able to pass back to the front of the pack with ease on the restart after being relegated to the tail, but was still one lap down to the field. Bobby East won over Dave Darland and Eric Gordon, while Jacob finished a respectable 11th. Thanks to Fatheadz, CPProducts and Jarrod Zachary Welding for all the help with the car. Anderson Speedway USAC Midgets- Jacob and the team were hungry for a win after the last midget race where he set the fast time only to cut down a tire and finish last. We practiced very fast and set the fast time in qualifying. The heat was inverted so Jake started the #07 in 4th spot and quickly moved forward utilizing the high side passing for the lead. He stretched it out and won the heat race. The feature saw a 6 car invert so the 07 started 3rd row outside. He was held up on the start by a slower car in front of him and Jacob was back to 9th before he started moving forward. He battled once again using the heroes line on the high side of the track and passed his way to 3rd right behind the leaders with 5 laps to go. The leaders stayed nose to tail and Jake tried to pass them with the laps winding down, but 2 cars are harder to pass than one so he settled for a 3rd place finish. The man new he was in town. Berlin Speedway Marne, MI- WBR unloaded with hopes for a top ten finish. The car was good in practice and was good on the long runs, things seemed right. We made an error at the race start and were penalized forcing us to start on the tail. Jacob was confident and quickly moved through the field following NASCAR driver Ryan Newman to the front. Newman was 9th and Jake was 10th on lap 38, when Jake radioed in that he had a tire going down. We were forced to pit under the green and change the right rear tire losing several laps. Our hopes for a top ten were erased and Jacob was relegated to a 15th place finish. Thanks to The Hobson's for making the 4 hour drive to come and watch the race. Thank you to all the fans who came down and visited with Jake and the team after the race. “Glen Niebel Classic” at Anderson Speedway Anderson, IN- Team WBR looked to get some laps in the kenyon midget for the first time this year with Jake at the wheel of the #07 while Clint helped with the National Sprint Car driven by Chris Windom. Jake and the team struggled early and with only one practice, they were still trying to get the handle on the car in the heat race and finally figured it out for the feature. Starting in last spot Jake shot forward at the green flag passing cars high and low; at lap 12 he had caught 8th place Blake Fitzpatrick and the two of them steadily pulled in the leaders that had broken away from the start. Jake moved high to pass Fitzpatrick and the car broke loose unexpectedly. He saved it but had to pull off the track with a flat right rear tire from debris on the track. The run that looked like it was possible to go from last to first in 30 laps was ended short. Clint's team had trouble qualifying and settled for 18th starting position. Windom was plenty fast make several passes in the early going, but steering problems forced him to the infield and 14th place finish. South Georgia Motorsports Park PRA Big Car Series Adel, GA- Jacob pulled out a top 10 finish for his first time in the big car. He was only able to get 7 laps of practice in before qualifying due to engine problems. The team spent all of the practice replacing bent push rods, but the car ran flawlessly in the 150 lap feature event. The team and driver had a great weekend and the top 10 was icing on the cake. "Most teams would have loaded the car up and went home, but you guys have what it takes to compete." another team owner remarked after the race. JACOB SETS FAST TIME AT USAC NATIONAL Columbus, OH- Jacob set the track record for Saturday night’s 50-lap USAC Midget race at the Ohio State Fairgrounds Expo Center at 7.137 seconds. After the 8 car invert he was only able to recover to 7th as the race went green for all 50 laps. Jacob finishes 9th at the Rumble in Ft. Wayne!
WBR WINS 2 at LOWES MOTOR SPEEDWAY Concord, NC- Jacob bested the Jr Champ Lite race with a dominating run leading from the pole position and pulling away from the field drafting up behind him. He placed 2nd in Jr Animal Champ after a 7th place starting position. He was put on the tail on lap 6 due to a crash involving 4 other karts and collecting him as well. Wilson charged back to the front and drafted his way back to 3rd at the white flag, only to get passed going into turn 1 the final time, but the 2 lead champs hooked tires coming off turn 4 handing the win to 3rd and 2nd to Jacob. He was 6th in Jr Lite after being knocked high while running 2nd and then hit off the track with no caution. He crossed the line in 4th but due to a red flag on the final lap the finishing order was reverted back one lap. Sunday Jacob qualified well sitting in the 2nd position for the Jr Champ Heavy feature. He led most of the laps until being passed going into turn 1 on the final lap, but unlike the day before, he passed back going into turn 3 and took the checkered flag for the win. The Jr Heavy kart race was pretty uneventful, Wilson started 4th and finished 4th, passing only once after being passed. CLINTON WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE 2ND YEAR -Ben Hur Speedway; Crawfordsville, IN- Clint posted another Indiana State Championship to add back to back championships to his lengthy list of accomplishments. Big brother Jacob struggled a bit and had to settle for a pair of 3rd places. He won 2 last year and finished 2nd in another class. JACOB WINS TWO IN JAMAICA, both BROTHERS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS -Jamaica Raceway; Jamaica, IA- Jacob knew the fastest driver doesn't always win the race and outsmarted the competition for the top spot; once Saturday and again on Sunday. The super smooth asphalt track is prime for drafting and the elder of the 2 brothers settled into 3rd position and waited patiently to race for the win coming off turn 4 the final time. He was able to repeat his wizardry a 2nd time Sunday to clinch the Championship in one class, two runner-ups and a 4th in the final points tally. Clinton won the championship with a 3rd place to back up his strong run earlier in Springfield, IL.
